“21 really,” Jasmine said with a smile as she looked at him. “I’m sorry, I mean you do look young, but you carry yourself differently from people who are so young.” She admitted trying to come up with a better way to explain it. “I mean, your spirit seems wiser and older than that of some so young.” She said hoping she didn’t sound crazy.

She noticed as they approached the coffee shop. She smiled and slowed down slightly. “Seeing as how you are a vampire and all, you really don’t have to come in with me if you don’t want to.” She said in her soft timid voice. Truthfully however, she was rather enjoying his company. It made her a little nervous, but also happy. She hadn’t had a relaxed conversation with someone in a very long time.

Jasper smiled at Jas, appreciating what she said. “Thank you,” he said sincerely. It wasn’t the first time someone had said something like that to him, but it was the first time it sounded like the person saying it actually meant it and wasn’t saying it just to be nice or to make Jasper feel less young.

“Oh,” Jasper said, remembering he had told her he was a vampire, “Well, if you’d like me to, I’ll come in. I don’t mind, I don’t have much else to do, to be honest.” He smiled at her sheepishly and for some reason hoped she would ask him to join her.

Jasper was born to a vampire and a faerie twenty-one years ago, but he hides the fact that he is a faerie as he knows others would be afraid of him if he revealed what he was. As a vampire/faerie hybrid, he has the powers of both species and is therefore rather dangerous, as his powers are immense. So he hides them, preferring to pass as a regular vampire than to be singled out as someone to be afraid of (which might seem like a contradiction, if he didn’t live in Sunnybrooke).
